Woman receives damages award in sexual harassment lawsuit

Victims of sexual harassment should be aware that they receive important protections under the law. An employee who worked for a restaurant owned by reality T.V. personality Lisa Vanderpump was recently awarded over $6,000 by a jury because the woman alleged she was forced to quit working at the restaurant because of sexual harassment by one of the assistant managers at the restaurant.

Paid paternity leave discussed as nation celebrates Father's Day

With the nation recently celebrating Father's Day, the role of dads in today's society has been on the mind of many people. In years past, fathers were not expected to take the active role in parenting that they are today. In fact, they weren't even expected to be in the delivery room. However, this role has changed over time, and many men have welcomed this change. Fathers are now expected to be present for the birth of their child and to participate in that child's upbringing. Some have argued that men now face many of the work-life balancing issues that working mothers have faced for years.

Employees protest working conditions

Over 25,000 signatures have been gathered protesting the working conditions for employees working for the popular shoe company Skechers. According to reports, workers signed various petitions in hopes that the company would investigate contractors and subcontractors that are used in making and distributing the shoes around the country.

Nurse sues hospital over wrongful termination

Most California employees are at-will employees. This means that they can be terminated by their employers at any time without reason or prior notification. However under state and federal employment laws, there are certain situations which the employer does not have the right to terminate an employee. A termination based on illegal discrimination or in retaliation for whistleblowing is not allowed. In other words, these are generally wrongful terminations.
