Gretchen Carlson settlement shows the importance of publicity

California residents may be aware that the sexual harassment suit filed by TV anchor Gretchen Carlson against former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes in August was recently settled. In a Sept. 6 statement, 21st Century Fox thanked Carlson for her work with the popular cable news channel and apologized for the way she had been treated. Several media reports claim that the 50-year-old former 'Fox and Friends" anchor will be paid as much as $20 million in the settlement.

How gender discrimination may impact men in California

While much has been made of gender bias against women at work, there are ways in which men can be discriminated against as well. For instance, after a woman has a baby, she is generally entitled to a period of leave as well as the ability to obtain a flexible schedule based on the child's needs. In most cases, fathers are given limited rights as they aren't thought of as caregivers.

Age discrimination prevents older adults from finding work

Millions of older workers remain jobless and cannot find work despite employers creating thousands of jobs across the country each month. Older adults in California who are still looking for work might be experiencing age discrimination, according to data analysis and studies.

Overview of FMLA rights

The federal Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 allows covered employees in California and around the country to take job-protected, unpaid leave while they are dealing with a serious medical or family issue. The right for employees to take leave is also protected under the California Family Rights Act.
