Aggressive Protection of Your Rights Under The Law

The basic remedies for whistleblowers

It is not uncommon for an employee who is branded a rebel-rouser to be marginalized and ultimately fired for trying to expose corruption and fraud within a business. But a person who is viewed as a troublemaker could also be seen as a whistleblower. Some people in these positions may also go as far as volunteering as a plaintiff in a False Claims Act case.

Federal legislation could protect LGBT employees

The LGBT community scored a major victory when the United States Supreme Court ruled that state laws denying the right for same sex couples to marry were unconstitutional. For those who were shocked by the ruling, there were signs of that possibility in prior rulings; specifically the 2014 ruling in U.S. v. Windsor, where the Court held that provisions of the Defense of Marriage Act were unconstitutional. This allowed the widow of a woman who left the balance of her estate to her to avoid paying federal estate taxes.

Employee uniforms and religious beliefs

While news about the jobs market appears promising because of the latest jobs report, it may be lost on many people that applicants and employees are still being discriminated against in the workplace because of their religious beliefs. It is unfortunate, given that the 1964 Civil Rights Act celebrated 50 years of existence last year, that some employees will be denied a chance to earn a living because of what they wear to support their religious beliefs.
