Report claims that Muslims suffer from religious discrimination


Workplace discrimination is illegal in California. There are both state and federal laws that protect workers from having to suffer as a result of discrimination on behalf of their employer. In particular the California Workplace Religious Freedom Act, protects workers from suffering from discrimination based on their religion. This law, in particular, says that employers must make reasonable accommodations for an employee's religious beliefs and religious observances unless these accommodations would cause undue hardship.

Unpaid interns protected from sexual harassment under new law


There are certain protections that every California worker expects to have in the workplace. One, in particular, is the expectation to be free from sexual harassment. Under California law, workers have the right to be free from unwanted sexual advances, jokes, comments and other sexual harassment. Workers cannot be legally fired for complaining about these types of conditions. Furthermore, employees cannot face retaliation for refusing sexual advances or reporting sexual harassment.

Factors that contribute to a wrongful termination


Most California employees can be terminated from their employment at any time. In other words, they are at-will employees. This status gives employees few rights when it comes to termination. This means that most employers have the right to fire an employee for any or no reason. However, California and federal employment laws prevent an employee from being terminated for a few illegal reasons. If one of these illegal reasons is used to terminate an employee, then a wrongful termination has occurred.
